Almost every Saturday, from noon to 1:30 p.m., a 58-year-old evangelist perches atop a step stool at one of the busiest intersections in Billings and preaches the word of God as he knows it.

Motorists at the corner of 24th Street West and Central Avenue whiz by as Sam Lee uses a megaphone to talk about sin. Most glare quizzically, wondering what's going on.

He has become as much of a fixture there as the traffic light.

Some motorists honk; others wave. Some give him two thumbs up through their car windows; others give him the finger.

None of it fazes him.

"The Lord Jesus Christ suffered more than I ever will," Lee said.

He calls it "open-air preaching."

"Many people won't go to church," he said. "This is one way of getting the word out to the people."
