Ace Frehley Reunites With Kiss Cover Artist For New Solo Album

eOne Music

There’s Kiss reunion news to report, though it doesn’t involve Gene Simmons or Paul Stanley. Ace Frehley is once again working with Ken Kelly, the artist who created the iconic imagery for both 1976’s ‘Destroyer‘ and 1977’s ‘Love Gun.’ Kelly has fashioned a new, appropriately out-of-this-world image for Frehley’s forthcoming solo album ‘Space Invader,’ seen above.

The album’s release date, however, has been pushed back to Aug. 19. ‘Space Invader,’ Frehley’s first new album in five years — and his initial release since joining the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the always-contentious original Kiss lineup — is set to include at least nine new originals and a cover of ‘The Joker,’ by the Steve Miller Band.

The idea of reuniting with Kelly has actually been in the works for some time. “I’ve been talking with Ken Kelly since 2007 about painting a CD cover for me and it has finally happened,” Frehley said in a press release. “I couldn’t be more excited about the new ‘Space Invader’ cover, and the music behind it is also going to rock your world.”

Kelly has also done artwork for novels featuring Conan the Barbarian, Tarzan and a series of fantasy books. “It was very exciting when I was approached with the idea of doing an album cover for Ace,” he said. “I had spoken to Ace on a few occasions about the possibility, so I was delighted when it actually happened.”
