Yesterday (Aug. 29), another loss of a major star shook the world. This time, it wasn’t one from the rock community, but one of the silver screen’s biggest stars: Gene Wilder. The actor starred in classic flicks like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles and more. He also had a sitcom entitled Something Wilder, where Alice Cooper once made a special appearance. The shock rocker has now taken the time to remember the icon.

Alice posted a tribute on his Facebook page (seen directly below), attaching a clip (video below) from the 1995 Something Wilder episode “Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper” where he was throwing a loud party next door to Wilder. Remembering the fallen actor, Alice said, “I count working with Gene Wilder on his TV sitcom Something Wilder to be one of the most precious memories of my entire career. Doing ‘one on one’ comedy with Gene was like jamming with the Beatles. It doesn’t get any better. Gene Wilder is IRREPLACEABLE and will always be an American treasure.”

Wilder kept his Alzheimer’s condition under wraps despite receiving the diagnosis three years ago. The comedic actor passed away at his home in Stamford, Ct. due to complications from the disease. His nephew, Jordan Walker-Pearlman told NPR the decision to keep the diagnosis quiet was because “there were times we would go out to dinner as a family and children would light up at the sight of him and smile. And because he never lost his instinct or sense or sensibility, it occurred to him that if that disease were made public, as regards him, that then after that smile, some parent may then say something about disease or sadness. And he was such that he could not bear to be responsible for one less smile in the world.”

With an August run of tour dates in the books, Alice Cooper will be heading back out on the road just in time for Halloween. The legend has a series of stops set to kick off on Oct. 4, running through Oct. 30. For a full list of dates, click here.
