‘Alpha House’ Season 2: Amazon Renews John Goodman Comedy, Confirms Six Others to Series

Amazon’s John Goodman-led original series, ‘Alpha House,’ garnered much acclaim during its first season run and even challenged Netflix’s premiere model by initially releasing only the first three episodes before transitioning into a weekly release. So far, it’s proved successful, and now Amazon has officially given the green light to ‘Alpha House’ season 2, in addition to series orders for six other programs.

Said ‘Alpha House’ writer-producer Garry Trudeau (who is also an Academy Award nominee and Pulitzer Prize winner) on the season 2 renewal, “‘Alpha House’ is a joy to work on and we’re thrilled that the show’s been renewed by Amazon. It’s fun to dance on the leading edge of streaming video, where audiences converge on server farms at all hours, besotted by John Goodman and free two-day shipping.”

‘Alpha House’ follows four senators (John Goodman, Clark Johnson, Matt Malloy, Mark Consuelos) who live together in a rented house in Washington, DC, co-starring Cynthia Nixon and Wanda Sykes. Amazon customer reviews were the deciding factor as to which series got renewed, and ‘Alpha House’ got more than 6,000 five-star reviews.

In addition to ‘Alpha House’ season 2, we already knew that Amazon would be picking up ‘The After,’ ‘Mozart in the Jungle,’ ‘Transparent’ and ‘Bosch’ for full seasons, the streaming service officially announced the pickups, as well as ones for ‘Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street’ and animated series ‘Wishenpoof!’

Here’s a primer for each: ‘The After,’ from ‘X-Files’ creator Chris Carter, follows eight strangers who are thrown together by mysterious forces and must help each other survive in a violent world that defies explanation. Comedic drama ‘Mozart in the Jungle’ is about sex, drugs and classical music, that shows what happens behind the curtains can be just as captivating as what happens on stage. A Los Angeles family with serious boundary issues takes center stage in ‘Transparent,’ while ‘Gortimer Gibbon’s’ is a coming-of-age tale that centers around Gortimer, his two best friends Ranger and Mel, and their exploits on Normal Street, an ordinary suburban neighborhood that has a hint of something magical just beneath the surface. And as for ‘Wishenpoof!,’ the animated series centers around a child infatuated with wishing.
