American Pharoah beat Firing Line by a length and won the 141st Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Kentucky on Saturday. Dortmund finished third.

Firing Line had the lead entering the back stretch, but American Pharoah rallied wide late. Ridden by Victor Espinoza and trained by Bob Baffert, American Pharoah won his fifth race in six runnings, and a fourth Kentucky Derby crown for Baffert. Espinoza captured his second consecutive Derby win; he rode California Chrome to victory in 2014.

American Pharoah paid $7.80, $5.80, $4.20 to win. Firing Line returned $8.40 and $5.40 in second place, while Dortmund paid $4.20 to show.

The exciting race happened in front of an announced crowd of 170,513, which broke the previous Derby record of 165,307 in 2012.
