‘American Psycho’ TV Series in the Works at FX
With Showtime’s ‘Dexter‘ soon to shut off its bloodbath, and ‘Breaking Bad‘ due to be broken in three weeks time, FX is rather quickly looking to fill the void of amoral killers on cable TV. Sources report that the network has begun development of an ‘American Psycho’ TV series to follow the book and film of the same name, but what would become of serial-killing icon Patrick Bateman after so many years?
Via The Hollywood Reporter, the new ‘American Psycho’ TV series arrives from Allison Shearmur, writer Stefan Jaworski and Lionsgate Television. Whereas the original 1991 Bret Easton Ellis novel and its 2000 adaptation with future ‘Batman Begins‘ star Christian Bale followed murderous Manhattan executive Patrick Bateman in his ’80s killing sprees, the new series would pick up with Bateman in his mid-50s, but “as outrageous and lethal as ever.”
Bateman takes on a protégé of sorts in “a sadistic social experiment who will become every bit his equal and creates a next generation American Psycho.” Naturally, we don’t expect Christian Bale will have any involvement, as he doesn’t seem to mind who takes his old roles of late.
‘American Psycho’ continues the increasing trend of TV serial killers as well, where ‘Hannibal,’ ‘The Following,’ ‘Bates Motel‘ and more have picked up. It remains to be seen how FX will handle development of the new series, but in the meantime watch the original ‘American Psycho’ trailer below, and give us your thoughts on a TV series in the comments!
