Arrest Made in South Billings Shooting From Sunday Night
Over a dozen Billings Police units responded to a shooting call at the 3000 block of 8th Avenue South on Sunday night, May 11th.
Two suspects were taken into custody at that time after 7 people were cleared from the house.
On May 13th, Billings Police charged 37 year old Danny Jo Lira with one felony count of aggravated burglary and a misdemeanor count of obstructing a peace officer.
From the Billings P.D.:
Police Lieutenant Kevin Iffland said,
at this time the investigation is ongoing and further details as to what happened inside of the home were not immediately available.
Iffland did confirm that Lira fired a gun and shot another man in the leg.
According to police records, Lira has a Billings criminal record including a drug charge in 2007. Also in 2009 Walmart employee Craig Schmidt scuffled with Lira on the Walmart loading dock in which Lira was grazed with a bullet to the forehead. Prosecutors later determined that the shooting by Schmidt was justifiable self defense.
