These fellows have gotten themselves a fair bit of local press lately. As I was to discover it’s for a good reason. While I hesitate to give any sort of hard label to their style of Jazz I would probably say Jazz Fusion would be the most applicable
Maybe I’m wrong, or misremembering, but didn’t there used to be a ton of bands that played shows in this town? When I moved from Billings to Seattle in ’99 there seemed to me to be a wealth of options if I wanted to go see a show here. I move back in 2010 and there’s nothing. What happened to all the music?
Ah nostalgia. The times, they were different back then. The Grunge scene, both extremely popular and some would argue innovative, had been pushed back underground by ’97. Heavily marketed Pop stars and boy bands were starting to get heavy rotations on radio stations and MTV, seemingly slugging it out with the Ska-influenced Rock bands at the time
It’s been a while since I’ve been to a bar. It’s been even longer since I’ve been to a bar in Billings. The last time I started in at noon? I couldn’t even tell you. Well I was able to check all three of those off of my list last weekend with the Parrothead Pub Crawl, a fundraiser for the Ramsey Keller Memorial. What’s a pub crawl? First you go to a bar, then leave that bar and go to another bar. Rinse and repeat until all of the bars on the list have been checked off or you’ve checked out. Depending on the theme there might be an activity at the bars beyond getting the next round of drinks for your teammates but that’s not necessarily a requirement.
