Q2 reports the final stretch of Beartooth Highway south of Red Lodge will gain two three-foot shoulders for bicyclists, thank to a $16 million federal grant.

Montana Democratic Sen. Jon Tester announced Tuesday the U.S Department of Transportation will provide the funds through the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery grant program. It will complete renovations on the 67-mile stretch of what is frequently identified among the most picturesque roads in the country.

A statement from Tester’s office described it as [quote] “the most scenic gateway to Yellowstone… draws tourists from around the globe who fuel Montana’s outdoor economy. God doesn’t make places like this anymore and we ought to keep them accessible. Finishing construction ensures folks can continue to visit the picturesque park and enjoy some of the best hiking, biking, and fishing Montana has to offer,” [end quote]
