Crimson ProjeKCt Postpones Ukraine Concert Due To Unrest

Facebook.com/thecrimsonprojekct

The Crimson ProjeKCt, a group containing three King Crimson alumni, has been forced to cancel its March 6 show in Kiev as a result of the turbulent political situation in Ukraine. The group hopes to reschedule for a date in July.

Tony Levin, the group’s virtuoso Chapman Stick player, broke the news on the group’s Facebook page. “We have been looking forward to the concert in Kiev in spite of the difficulties there,” he wrote. “And until today we were planning on going through with it despite advisories from the U.S. State Dept not to go. But it’s not going to be possible at this time.”

Levin, who wrote about his familial connection to Ukraine, added that he’s “sad that we weren’t able to bring the Crimson ProjeKCt music to Kiev at this pivotal time — I know first hand of the passion people have there for the music they love. My hope is, of course, that the current problems get worked out in a way that’s best for the people of Ukraine.”

The Kiev show was supposed to be the second date on the Crimson ProjeKCt’s 2014 tour. They will play Tel Aviv on Wednesday (March 5) and continue across Europe before winding it up in Firenze, Italy on April 2.

In addition to Levin, the Crimson ProjeKCt includes guitarist Adrian Belew and drummer Pat Mastelotto, both of whom have been in King Crimson over the years. The bulk of their set is comprised of material from Belew’s and Levin’s tenure in the band.
