Man, those Journey guys keep getting into legal trouble! After the news last week about Neil Schon being served with a (seemingly dubious) 50 million dollar lawsuit brought by his new girlfriend’s estranged husband, now we hear that Journey drummer Deen Castronovo has agreed to complete 80 hours of community service as a result of an alleged assault case from about a month ago.

This stems from an incident last month when Castronovo was arrested after a neighbor called the police to report a man and woman fighting. The couple in question turned out to be Castrovono and an ex-girlfriend. After the incident, the Journey sticksman was charged with reckless endangerment, second-degree criminal mischief, harassment and interfering with making a police report.

On Jan. 31, he pled not guilty to the four charges, all of which are misdemeanors, in Polk County Circuit Court. In addition to the community service, he is also required to attend anger management classes as part of a diversion agreement. That wheel in the sky, sure does keep on turning doesn’t it?!

With the fourth season premiering last night, Lozada is known for providing entertaining sound bytes with catchphrases such as “You are a non-mutha-f—in’ factor, bitch!” and “Stay in your lane, boo boo!”

We’ve been waiting for months to hear whether the Rolling Stones will mount a world tour to celebrate their 50th anniversary this year, and we’ve heard that Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are trying to iron out the details — and that drummer Charlie Watts is eager to join his longtime mates on the road. According to guitarist Ron Wood, things are “on the verge” of coming together.

During a recent interview, Wood was asked whether fans could expect to see the Stones on tour this year, and he responded, “Be lovely, wouldn’t it? That’s what we’re on the verge of. I dunno what the hell is gonna happen yet but we all feel we owe it to ourselves and to the people to do something.”

Musing about what it would take to make the tour a reality, he offered, “Basically, get the boys feeling comfortable with each other, ’cause we’re all ready to go individually. It’s just a matter of tying up loose ends and coming together as a unit.”

A 50th anniversary jaunt from the Stones would add to a concert season that’s already stacked with big names, including Van Halen, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Coldplay, Radiohead, and Brian Wilson with the Beach Boys. As Pollstar editor Gary Bongiovanni told the Los Angeles Times, “We can foresee this being a record year for revenue certainly, and possibly even for attendance.”

Lola Osbourne, the bulldog best known as Ozzy Osbourne‘s co-star in the hit reality series ‘The Osbournes,’ has died at the age of 12. Ozzy’s son Jack, who seems to have been Lola’s owner, broke the news last night (Feb. 21).

“Lola you were the best friend anyone could ever have. I will love you and miss you always. RIP,” the younger Osbourne tweeted. He later thanked his followers for their well-wishes: “Thank you for all the kind words about @PrincessLolaO it’s nice to know she was loved by so many people.”

As you may already know, in addition to being a TV star, Lola had her own very popular twitter feed, and a presumably final message was posted last night on the account: “Thank you all for your kind words. I’m in a better place now. Heaven needs a new princess.”

When not sleeping, Lola seems to have spent much of her on-air life clawing up furniture or peeing in the Osbourne’s lovely home. Despite that, she was clearly loved by family and friends. Having just lost our beloved pet (and UCR canine editor) Stellah, we have some idea what Jack and family are going through. Our thoughts are with them.

Last Man Standing are articles intended to help the average guy prepare for some of life’s oddest events. It’s just advice. It’s better than being clueless.

If you’ve ever seen a cop drama, there usually comes a point when detective so-and-so says something like, “The machine isn’t reliable. I’ve seen men beat it before.” Of course, the officer then goes ahead with the test anyway (lots of suspense), all the while bemoaning the fact that the results can’t be used to convict the jerk.

As a fan of beating the system, and the ‘man’ behind the system, you’re probably wondering if you could beat a lie detector test too. The answer is, unless you’re a hysterical nervous wreck, a resounding yes. Here are a few basic rules to get you by:

Just say no

First of all, if you’re ever asked to take a polygraph test, just say, “no,” regardless of how hard the coppers try to bend you to their will. The easiest way not to fail a test is simply not to take it.

Understand the Test Questions

Okay, you’ve agreed to sit for a polygraph test. Not your brightest move, but you can still beat it. In a nutshell, what this test does is measure control questions, which establish your baseline physical reactions, against relevant questions. Control questions are often designed to be awkward, forcing you to admit to everyday lies, such as asking you if you’ve ever cheated on a test or a girlfriend, lied to your mother, or exceeded the speed limit in your car.

A relevant question might be something like, “Did you kill the circus clown and his monkey?” Relevant questions pertain only to what the examiner is trying to get out of you. And make no mistake about it — if you’re taking a polygraph test, someone is trying to get you to confess to something.

Set the Bar High for Control Questions

By setting the bar high, we mean eliciting stressful and nervous physical responses from your body during the control phase of questioning. Remember, your body’s reactions to the control questions will be compared to your reactions when asked relevant questions. So, if you are ‘falsely’ distressed during the control questions, the graphs should look better (by comparison) when you are actually stressed out during a round of relevant questions.

The best way to do this is through physical pain. Keep a tack in your shoe and press down on it when answering control questions, or bite down on the inside of your cheek hard (make sure this isn’t visible to anyone watching). Suspects used to clench their butt cheeks together to get their blood pressure rising, but the prevalence of pressure sensitive seat pads makes this tactic a no-no nowadays.

Breathe Strangely (Control Questions)

Try to make your breath as irregular as possible during the control phase of the test. Draw your breath in faster, and then slower than you would normally, or even hold it in for a moment. Again, try not to be too obvious about this. If your breathing is erratic during a round of control questions, it should read as calmer when you’re asked relevant questions, even if your nerves tend to betray you. “Of course I didn’t kill the circus clown and his monkey.”

Assume You Are Constantly Being Watched

A few hidden cameras might be strewn about, or even a two-way mirror. Don’t rush into the toilet, splash water across your brow and mumble, “I hope I can beat this damn test.” Keep your game face on at all times.

Don’t Believe the Tester

Ironically, it’s in the interest of the person testing you to gain your trust, which is often accomplished by lying, or frightening you. He or she wants you to have faith in the scientific accuracy of the machine (it’s not accurate at all) and the overall test. Treat everything this person says with doubt and skepticism.

Control Your Physical State

It’s only natural to be nervous when facing a lie detector. Keep your blood pressure low, and normalize your breathing when asked relevant questions. You can take antidepressants before the test to slow your heart rate down (but never admit to this), do math problems inside your head in order to distract your conscious brain from the stressful environment at hand, or imagine a calm setting, like a quiet beach or a country meadow. In other word, just chill out — anyway you can.

Word of advice: If you walk in drunk or stoned out of your mind, with crossed or bloodshot eyes, the examiner will probably notice. Subtlety is key here.

Keep it Simple, Stupid

Stick to your story, and never offer more information than you have to. Here’s an example of a good response:

Tester: “Did you kill the circus clown and his monkey?”

You: “No.”

And a bad response:

Tester: “Did you kill the circus clown and his monkey?”

You: “I’m innocent, I tell you! I didn’t do it. Also, I know absolutely nothing about the diamonds inside that dead clown’s inner right vest pocket.” (Apologies to all of those real clowns out there, working hard to make a living.)

Practice, and Above All Else, Be Cool

Even if the examiner accuses you of lying, or tells you something is “off,” make sure you stick to your guns. “No sir, I deny all accusations.”

What the tester is trying to do, in essence, is trip you up. Practice your tricks and responses ahead of time, don’t change your story, and keep your temper in check. With the methods listed above, you should do just fine. Circus clowns be warned.

The band members further distanced themselves from the project by releasing a statement that said Motorhead had “no control over what’s done with these early songs,” adding they “don’t want fans to think that the band is involved in putting out such a costly box set.”

Never one to promote certainty, the members of Guns N’ Roses have once again left fans wondering if a full reunion is likely or even possible when they’re inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April. Slash doesn’t deny Dizzy Reed’s claim that the band is getting back together for one night in Cleveland, but he hardly confirms it.

“I know that there’s a lot of rumor about it, as always when it comes to GNR, out there on the Internet and stuff, but as it stands right this second, I have no idea what’s going on,” the guitarist said in an interview with Mike Jones of Washington D.C. rock radio station DC101.

The band is being recognized on April 14, and Reed got longtime fans excited last week by saying the entire original band — including Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan, Steven Adler and Slash — would be present. Reed, Matt Sorum and Gilby Clarke joined later.

“I know that all the original band is going to be there, I don’t know exactly what’s going to go down,” Reed told Billboard. “It’s one of those things I’m sure will all come together and be really cool. I’m just going to go in with a good attitude and a clear head and a grateful heart.”

Slash’s deflection of the question is a step up from his angry denial in December. The guitarist did say that he was honored to be included in this class, which includes Donovan, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Beastie Boys and others. “It was very flattering to get that initial phone call to say we were nominated,” he said adding that finding out the band was being inducted was a cherry on an already delicious sundae.

Chickenfoot has announced a 20-date 2012 U.S. tour in support of their recent album ‘III.’ The trek, dubbed the “Different Devil Tour 2012,” will kick off May 4 in Lake Tahoe, Nev. and wind up June 10 in Los Angeles, Calif.

With founding drummer Chad Smith still caught up on the Red Hot Chili Peppers tour, the lineup for these dates will feature Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony and drummer Kenny Aronoff. The tour is named after the band’s current single ‘Different Devil‘ — reviewed here — and will be their first major-scale tour since the release of the new album.

If the reviews from the group’s brief November small club “Road Test” tour are any indication, fans can expect a healthy dose of songs from both Chickenfoot albums, but no tracks from any of the band member’s solo careers or Hagar and Anthony’s time together in Van Halen.

As Hagar explained in a recent interview, “We really do not want to dilute this band and become a Van Halen cover band, or become a Sammy Hagar cover band or a Joe Satriani cover band… The idea is that we are Chickenfoot, and we will stay that.”

After Ronnie James Dio died in May 2010, Judas Priest‘s Rob Halford, Black Sabbath‘s Geezer Butler and other members of the hard rock/heavy metal community were quick to express their appreciation in public for the powerful, pint-size singer.

A belated Dio tribute came from a rather unlikely source on Feb. 17 when alt-country star Ryan Adams busted out a solo acoustic cover of ‘Holy Diver’ during his concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.

In a clip now available on the Internet, Adams – holding a red, white and blue acoustic guitar – jokes with the audience about his show running overtime. Quickly changing gears, he says, “I mean this from the bottom of my heart. This man who wrote this song … is just a genius and like a blindingly good person.”

The crowd remains quiet at first as Adams starts the song on his guitar, but once he sings the tune’s title (and opening words), there’s a smattering of applause. At first, Adams alternates from single-note picking and chord strumming, then shifts to full-on strumming as he picks up the tempo.

In the latter part of the performance, Adams prompts a few laughs when he says, “If Warren DeMartini was going to come out, this would be the perfect part right here.” Metal aficionados know it was longtime Def Leppard member Vivian Campbell — not DeMartini, who found fame with Ratt — who played on ‘Holy Diver,’ but Adams can be forgiven for taking liberties with his choice of renowned metal guitarists.

Hey, here’s a thought: If there’s room (and still time), why not have Adams contribute to the forthcoming star-studded Dio tribute album?

The Denzel Washington/Ryan Reynolds thriller ‘Safe House’ kept movie-goers on the edge of their seats this holiday weekend, earning $28.4 million to land at the top of the charts in its second week of release.

‘The Vow’ took in $26.6 million for the runner-up spot, barely squeaking past ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island,’ which sold $26.4 million in tickets for third.

Rounding out the top five? Nicolas Cage’s ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance’ and the Reese Witherspoon rom-com ‘This Means War,’ which netted $25.7 million and $20.4 million, respectively.
