FOX’s ‘Gotham’ TV Series Taps ‘Nikita’ Director, Bruce Wayne Reports Debunked?

FOX Gotham TV Series Batman Commisioner Gordon Danny Cannon
Warner Bros.

So far we’ve heard criminally little of FOX’s surprise ‘Gotham‘ TV series, centering its story on the detective career of a pre-Batman Commissioner Gordon, but apart from a few recent rumors, it seems the buzzworthy pilot at least has a respectable director. ‘CSI’ vet Danny Cannon will helm the inaugural installment of ‘Gotham,’ while a new report suggests a young Bruce Wayne’s inclusion in the series may not come to pass.

Deadline first broke the news of Cannon’s attachment to ‘Gotham,’ also adding that the ‘Nikita‘ pilot director and producer will executive produce the DC drama pilot, as well. The report also continually insists that Batman will have no part in the new series, despite recent leaked casting reports that suggested a young and newly orphaned Bruce Wayne may in fact appear as a series regular. At the very least, it remains likely the pilot will involve Gordon investigating the murders of Thomas and Martha Wayne.

Given a straight-to-series order, the new Bat-drama will explore “the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made Gotham famous,” with its pilot to be written and executive produced by ‘The Mentalist”s Bruno Heller, along with Warner Bros. Television. It remains unknown if ‘Gotham,’ shooting in March 2014, will have any ties to Ben Affleck‘s take on the Dark Knight for ‘Batman vs. Superman.’

What do you think? Is ‘Gotham’ in good hands with a more police procedural and CW-friendly director? Would you still want a young Bruce Wayne to be an ongoing part of the series?
