While we wait for more details on Guillermo del Toro's 'Justice League Dark' movie, he's busy assembling a different team to traverse into haunted house territory for 'Crimson Peak.' And word is the only person brave enough to lead a team down that road is 'Star Trek Into Darkness' villain Benedict Cumberbatch.

The 'Sherlock' star is prepping to walk over our "cold corpses" in J.J. Abrams' latest 'Star Trek' movie, but he's wasting no time in racking up more future gigs. 'Crimson Peak,' which, aside from featuring Emma Stone, will reunite del Toro and Charlie Hunnam once again, has cast Cumberbatch in the lead role, reports Variety.

Only general info is known about del Toro's post-'Pacific Rim' flick since the director and his screenwriting partner Lucinda Coxon are currently in the throngs of rewriting the original script, though it has been described as "a very set-oriented, classical [film] but at the same time modern take on the ghost story."

[UPDATE: THR reports additional plot details, saying, "The gothic horror story centers on a woman who discovers that her husband may not be whom he appears to be." Del Toro also wrote on his official forums this year that "It’s set at the turn of the century and it is a gothic romance with ghosts. When I use the GR [gothic romance] term I use it not in the Barbara Cartland model but rather in a Bronte fashion. Dark and stormy and wind-swept."]

The film is looking to be another major credit to add to Cumberbatch's ever-growing resume. He's quickly becoming one of this year's top stars with his upcoming roles in 'The Hobbit' trilogy, '12 Years a Slave' and 'August: Osage County' on top of his 'Star Trek' gig and his continuing part in 'Sherlock.'
