Has the Bakken Boom Hit Billings?

The Bakken Oil Boom: has it already started to impact Billings?  Yes!  Drill baby drill, famous words spoken just a few years ago during the presidential campaign, and that is exactly what they are doing across most of North Dakota into Eastern Montana.

For those who don’t think that this insane oil boom is already impacting the Billings area, let me tell you, you are wrong.  Many residents make the commute weekly, bi-weekly or monthly to work.  Some call it the land of opportunity.  However true that may seem, it is all but roses, or at least in Williston.

Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of jobs to be had in the oil patch.  There’s just no housing to be found, store shelves never stay stocked and the crime rate is up. The lack of infrastructure there makes for a very difficult life style.

Take if from someone who has a spouse who travels weekly to the land of oil and opportunity.  This past January the Billings Gazette, you may recall ran an article about preparing for the boom, it’s on it’s way and it will be here before we know it.
