If you’ve been rockin' with the Hawk for the past 6 weeks, you’ve heard a lot of talk about the food, bands, beer and booze at Billings Baconfest on Saturday. But, keep in mind, we’re also making bacon for a good cause.

The Billings Food Bank feeds thousands of hungry families every year and the need is even greater around the holidays.  They’ll be at the Holiday Inn Montana Convention Center on Saturday collecting canned and non-perishable food items, turkeys and cash donations.  If you get there early, we’ll make it worth your while.  The first 500 people who donate to the Food Bank will each receive a Billings Baconfest t-shirt.

Chef Bill Jensen, the instructor at the Food Bank’s Fortin Culinary Center, will also be there serving samples of bacon mac and cheese and bacon apple pie.  His entire cooking class has been feverishly preparing these items as part of a school project.

The Billings Food Bank is one of several community organizations joining us at Baconfest.  The United States Marine Corps will be there promoting this year’s Toys 4 Tots campaign.  Youth Dynamics and St. Vincent’s will also have booths on site.  And, if you’re a football fan, you can meet the people who are trying to resurrect the football program at MSUB and the organizers of the upcoming Drills and Meals Youth Football Camp with former NFL star Terrell Owens.

It’s a chance to sample some of the best restaurants, food trucks, meat markets and chefs in Billings, plus you can help out some great local charities who are making a difference in our community.
