Have you ever seen the sport of curling in the Winter Olympics?  Believe it or not, there is a connection between Curling and one of the greatest songs in rock history.

Back in the late 60's, Canadian rockers The Guess Who played a concert at a curling arena in Waterloo, Ontario. Due to the unique nature of the venue, the band held an extended soundcheck session to make sure the show would go off without a hitch.

During that soundcheck, the band's lead singer and guitarist Chad Allan started making up guitar riffs.  Almost by accident, he came up with the signature riff, melody and lyrics for a new song.  "American Woman" would eventually become the band's first number one single and remains a staple on classic rock stations all over the world to this day.

When you're watching the Winter Olympics this month, make sure to thank those Candadian curlers for helping to inspire one of the most popular rock songs of all time.
