One of the stickier problems with the Marvel movie universe is that the rights to various characters are split up amongst many separate studios, meaning that the X-Men could never meet up with Spider-Man like they could in the comics. However, that hasn't stopped fans from daydreaming about these characters crossing paths someday. Now, with even Hugh Jackman chatting about the possibility of 'The Wolverine' meeting up with 'The Avengers' those dreams may now feel the slightest bit more real.

Like Henry Cavill when asked if there was going to be a Superman and Batman crossover movie, Jackman responds to the question with enthusiasm, saying that he'd love to see a big crossover happen...but it's just not his decision. Speaking with Coming Soon on the set of 'The Wolverine,' Jackman said:

You know, obviously we have people from - one of the great things about this movie is that a lot of people from Marvel are here and it seems a lot more inclusive than it has been in the past. I don't know what's happening behind the scenes, but I think it's fantastic. I actually just asked the other day, I said, "I don't know what the legal situation is, but why don't these companies come together? Why isn't it possible?" Because personally, I would love to mix it up with Robert Downey Jr. and Iron Man and kick his ass. It'd be great.

That sound you hear is 20th Century Fox's lawyers and executives wincing. After all, the only people in the world who don't want to see Wolverine tangle with the Avengers are the top brass at the studio, who do not want to see their precious X-Men franchise and its characters revert back to Marvel. Why should they share on of their biggest cash cows with Disney, of all people? The movie business is exactly that - a business - and so far no Marvel partner has been willing to allow their characters to crossover.

Of course, every person in the world would go out of their way to see an Avengers and X-Men crossover movie, so who knows? Maybe Fox will see that even their big star is on board with the idea of a big, shared universe and reach out to Marvel Studios and Disney. Well, probably not...but we can daydream, right? After all, who would've thought 10 years ago that an 'Avengers' movie would actually happen?
