For some time now we’d known that Image Comics’ cult favorite ‘Chew’ had been in development as a live-action series at Showtime, though it seems the network ultimately opted to pass on the project. Now, the John Layman-Rob Guillory series will get a second chance to develop the series for TV, after first emerging as an animated adaptation of the comic for digital and home video!

Via The Hollywood Reporter, Jeff Krelitz and his Quality Transmedia banner picked up the property after Showtime initially passed on the pilot adaptation. For those unfamiliar with the comic, ‘Chew’ follows “cibopath” detective Tony Chu, who gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats. Chu operates in a world where bird meats have been outlawed following an avian flu that killed millions.

John Layman and Rob Guillory had originally optioned the property into a Showtime pilot produced by Circle of Confusion, until the option for pickup lapsed. Krelitz has already entered pre-production on the animated feature, and will soon meet with showrunners for another shot at the TV series.

Well, what say you? Are you excited ‘Chew’ could get another chance at a live-action adaptation? Check out our list of indie comics we’d like to see on TV, and tell us how you’d like to see the famous comic adapted in the comments!
