‘Insidious 3′ Is Already on the Way
James Wan's 'Insidious: Chapter 2' opened at $41 million over the weekend -- for a film that only cost around $5 million to make, that's a massive success. Combine that with his $40 million opening for this summer's 'The Conjuring' (making it one of the most successful horror films of all time), and James Wan has become the horror master. FilmDistrict agrees, and the studio is already moving ahead with 'Insidious 3.'
FilmDistrict (along with Entertainment One and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions) announced it's already plunging ahead with 'Insidious 3,' which will presumably be called 'Insidious: Chapter 3.' Leigh Whannell, who scripted the first two films -- and wrote Wan's 'Saw' and 'Dead Silence' -- has already signed on to pen the third film, though it has not yet been announced if Wan will return to helm the third installment.
The end of 'Insidious: Chapter 2' certainly opened the door for a third film, (SPOILER) leading the ghost hunters (one of whom is played by Whannell) to the home of a family to investigate some new paranormal activity.
Wan is currently taking a break from horror, directing 'Fast and Furious 7,' but that film is slated for a July 2014 release date and is currently filming -- meaning that Wan will be available again relatively soon, though it's unknown what his plans are past 'Fast and Furious 7.'
