With apologies to the great Neil Young, who released two albums this year, had an affair with the actress Daryl Hannah, filed for divorce from his wife of 37 years, launched a boycott of Starbucks and attempted to market a new analog portable music player, John Mellencamp was the most productive rocker of the year.

This year, Mellencamp co-wrote a new musical with famed author Steven King, opened his first art exhibit, bailed both of his delinquent teenage sons out of jail, broke up with his movie star girlfriend Meg Ryan, then got back together with Meg Ryan, then proposed to her (she said yes).  And he still found the time to release a new album, "Plain Spoken", and tour the country.

Now that's a productive year.
