John Rocker Shows Up in Cooperstown to Peddle Autographs & Night Out Drinking

The Baseball Hall of Fame held its induction ceremonies over the weekend and it was a milestone year for the Atlanta Braves organization. With pitchers Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine being enshrined along with manager Bobby Cox, the dominant National League organization of the 1990s earned its place in history.

Meanwhile, the man who went about his life in the completely opposite manner from those three set up a folding table on the street in Cooperstown to try and make a few extra bucks. Controversial closer John Rocker, who made his MLB debut with the Atlanta Braves in 1998, was selling T-shirts with ‘Speak English’ on the front along with his ‘coveted’ autograph.

But it might have been the raffle that made the entire scene come together.

That’s the sign that sat in front of Rocker’s table in Cooperstown. How generous of him to take 10 lucky people out with him as he gets housed on autograph money. We’re assuming he’s paying the entire tab, which still wouldn’t be enough to put up with a drunk John Rocker all night.

But the saddest picture of the day goes to Chuck Williams of the Ledger-Enquirer, who shared this image of Rocker and former outfielder Ryan Klesko together waiting for someone to stop by the table.

And to think, just 15 years earlier these five men were all celebrating the Braves’ last NL pennant.
