What does it sound like when Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett covers a song from the late-19th century? The answer's right here.

Hammett's cover of the 1892 song 'Daisy Bell (Bicycle Built for Two),' recorded for the new compilation album 'The Gay Nineties Old Tyme Music: Daisy Bell,' now has a video courtesy of its curator, artist Mark Ryden. As we previously reported, the 'Gay Nineties' record rounds up multiple performances of 'Daisy Bell,' contributed by a diverse array of artists that includes Hammett, Katy Perry, Nick Cave, and Tyler the Creator, all in the name of helping raise funds for the education nonprofit Little Kids Rock.

The album was produced in an extremely limited run of 999 numbered and hand-signed copies, each of which sold for $99, but now that the copies are out there, Ryden is sharing the contents via his YouTube channel, where he's uploaded videos for a number of the tracks, including the 'Daisy Bell' covers contributed by Hammett, Cave, and 'Weird Al' Yankovic. If you missed out on the fundraising action but would still like to hear the songs, go exploring -- but if you're at all familiar with Ryden's surrealistic (and often somewhat creepy) style, it probably won't surprise you to learn that these clips are all a little strange; Hammett's, for example, is filled with foreboding, splicing together old black-and-white footage of airplane surveillance and military parades with clips of cloned dolls dressed up like goosestepping barbershop singers. Which makes it kind of perfect for a Monday, now that we think about it.
