Nearly 20 years after the death of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, Seattle police announced they have reviewed their case files on this tragic event, examining previously undeveloped rolls of film that offer a better view of the crime scene than was previously available.

According to Seattle news station KIRO 7, last month officers developed four new rolls of film taken at the location where Cobain’s body was found. The pictures reportedly offer a much clearer view of the scene than earlier Polaroids taken by investigators. The station says they will reveal one of these photographs tonight (March 20) on their 11PM newscast.

However, the Seattle Police are quick to point out that they have not re-opened the investigation as to the cause of the singer’s death. “Despite an erroneous news report, we have not ‘repoened’ the investigation into the suicide of Kurt Cobain,” a statement on Twitter explains. “Our detective reviewed the case file anticipating questions surrounding the closed Cobain case as the 20 yr anniversary approaches.”

Cobain is believed to have died April 5, 1994 alone at his home, reportedly from a self-inflicted shotgun blast to the head. His body was found three days later by an electrician coming to work on the musician’s house. Cobain’s death has been ruled a suicide, although various conspiracy theories have emerged over the years to contradict this theory.
