Roger Waters has unveiled the second song from his upcoming album, Is This the Life We Really Want? You can listen to “Deja Vu” above.

The song follows the release of the upcoming LP’s first single, “Smell the Roses,” three weeks ago. The album, Waters’ first in 25 years, will be available on June 2.

Unlike “Smell the Roses,” a snarling rock ‘n’ roll track, “Deja Vu” features a more pensive turn by Waters, similar to the material he composed and sang for The Wall and The Final Cut, the last two albums he made with Pink Floyd.

The song includes an acoustic foundation and comes complete with sound effects and random bits of dialogue, just like Waters applied to the final Floyd records he’s associated with. You can thank new collaborator and producer Nigel Godrich for some of that. Radiohead’s right-hand man helped steer Is This the Life We Really Want? from its scattered origins to its final state as another concept album by Waters, whose past solo projects — 1984’s The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking, 1987’s Radio K.A.O.S. and 1992’s Amused to Death, his most recent LP — all took on assorted political and social themes.

The new album is no different. Waters has said the record ponders “not just why we are killing the children, it’s also the question of how do we take these moments of love – if we are granted any in our lives – and allow that love to shine on the rest of existence, on others.” Additionally, the press release for the album calls it “an unflinching commentary on the modern world and uncertain times.”

About a week before Is This the Life We Really Want?‘s release, Waters will start the Us + Them North American Tour on May 26 in Kansas City. He’ll spend the entire summer, and then some, on the road performing more than 50 concerts before the tour’s end on Oct. 28 in Vancouver. Waters said that the shows will include both Pink Floyd classics and solo songs.
