Q2 reports that taxpayers in Lockwood approved a bond issue for a high school to be built, supporting the $49.9 million project on Tuesday with almost 64 percent of the vote. Superintedndent Tobin Novasio said they want taxpayers to be confident in their investment. Lockwood is one of the fastest growing communities in the state.

The project could be completed as soon as 2021. It includes a 700-student capacity school, along with an auditorium that could hold that many students and a 3,000-person capacity gym. The cost to homeowners would run about $16.20 a month per $100,000 of assessed market value. That amount will likely decrease over the term of the bond as the district’s tax base continues to grow.

Officials have worked to make it a project Lockwood could be proud of and not burdensome to taxpayers.
