Metallica will film their Aug. 24 concert at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, B.C. for their upcoming 3D film project. Color us jealous — why does the Canadian Metallica contingent get to have all the fun?

In a good news / bad news announcement, the band revealed that the fans will be a part of the filming, but then also confirmed that they will not be adding any new dates to their summer tour plans. ‘Tallica will also perform their hits on a 360-degree stage that measures 140 by 50 feet.

Below is the text of the band’s post about the location of the filming.

Earlier today we announced that our gigantic, massive brand new Metalli-show will head north following a sold out run in Mexico City, with the first stop in Edmonton, AB. We’re back with another one 75 minutes later, this time in Vancouver, BC, on August 24 at Rogers Arena. And there is a TWIST – you’ll be a part of the show!! That’s right, we will be filming this show all in 3D for… you guessed it, the upcoming Metallica 3D movie that we’ve mentioned on and off a few times this year. We couldn’t think of a better place than Vancouver to end our three week new stage run with cameras capturing it all, so bring your nuttiest, craziest Metalli-self to the show, be a part of movie history, and show the rest of the world how much Vancouver rocks.

Tickets for the Vancouver show also go on sale this Friday, May 25 at 10:00 AM local time with a Live Nation pre-sale on Thursday, May 24 from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Clubbers – your pre-sale starts on Wednesday, May 23, so log in now for all the details.

For those of you wondering what lies ahead, the emphasis here is on “end of our three week new stage run” as these are indeed the last dates that we are announcing for summer of 2012.

Van City Buzz quotes Lars Ulrich as saying, “Our rabid Canadian fans will love this sick as f–, over the top, out of control stage that will be the cornerstone of our touring escapades for the next years to come. Don’t be scared boys and girls, this is going next level.”

Next level? As if we expect anything less.

If you need a refresher, ‘Tallica will work with Nimród Antal on the 3D project. Charlotte Huggins, who worked on ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth’ and ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island,’ will produce, and with those big budget films on her resume, we expect a visual spectacle of the highest order from the Metallimovie!

The doc will land on multiplex screens in summer of 2013. ‘Some Kind of Monster’ it’s not, but it will indeed be a monster of the most metal order.
