Montana Department of Transportation New “Vision Zero” Initiative [VIDEO]
The new Vision Zero campaign through the Montana Department of Transportation is designed to bring out awareness of seat belts and saving lives in Montana during Summer travel.Over 50 Montana law enforcement agencies are increasing their enforcement of Montana’s seat belt laws with the new Vision Zero initiative.
This is being launched during the month of May to get drivers geared up for the Summer driving travel season. The new Vision Zero initiative begins May 19th, statewide.
Montana Department of Transportation Director Mike Tooley states,
We’re starting the time of year when a majority of our highway fatalities happen in Montana, from May through October, when the roads are dry and days are long, is not a time for Montanans to be complacent about safe driving, but a time to be extra diligent on the roads by always buckling up and only driving sober.
There have been over 2,300 fatalities on Montana roads and highways from 2004-2013. Of those 2,300, 62% of these people were either not wearing a seat belt or wearing it improperly.
