When was the last time you discovered a brand new musical artist that rocked your world? If you're an old fart like me, chances are, it was a long time ago. According to a recent study published on the website skynetandebert.com, most people stop paying attention to new music in their early 30's.

The study is based on research derived from listener profiles on the popular online streaming services Spotify and Echo Nest. Data shows that the average user's musical tastes begin to change in their mid-20's. By the time most people reach their 30's, they no longer actively seek out and explore mainstream music artists. Men typically lose interest in new music quicker than women.

The study cites two factors for this trend. As they grow older, people aren't exposed to new music as often as they were in their youth. Also, users tend to gravitate back towards the music that was popular during adolescence and early adulthood.

Which begs the question, was music really better when we were growing up, or have we just stopped exposing ourselves to it? Check out the full study here.
