News Update: Beartooth Highway Crew Clears An Avalance and City Council Deals With, $38 Million
Another true sign of Spring in Montana!
Beartooth Highway work:
Today Montana Department of Transportation crews started the reconstruction of the guardrail along the Beartooth Highway from Red Lodge to Cooke City.
The timetable for re-opening the highway is this Friday, May 23rd. Workers were part of two avalanches as they began their plowing. 1,500 feet of rail was destroyed in one of the avalanches and the snow was 30 feet in some locations spanning 75 feet.
Billings City Council:
Tonight the city council will listen to two presentations that make up the majority of the 2014-2015 city budget. One being the Downtown Improvement District in relationship to the Billings Fire and Police Departments.
The Police Department has a proposed budget of $21 million which includes salary growth for 141 officers, 25 support employees as well as seven animal control officers. The Fire Department’s budget is about $17 million. The public meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Billings City Council Chambers at city hall.
