Nora Ephron’s Greatest Hits: The Top 10 Quotes From Her Movies

Yesterday, Nora Ephron died. She was a prolific writer and director and one of the filmmakers who paved the way for the romantic dramas we know and love today. Her sharp humor, compelling story lines and her unique viewpoint into the female psyche set her apart from other women filmmakers out there. Although she's no longer with us, we'd like to celebrate her work in our own way. So we've composed a top ten quotes from her movies throughout the years.

Julia Child, Slightly Uncensored
Meryl Streep is a versatile actress who has proven her worth on the big screen time and time again. One of the more under appreciated roles that she took on in recent years is her portrayal of the famous cook Julia Child in Nora Ephron's 'Julie & Julia.' Though there aren't too many quotable moments in the film, easily one of the most comical is when this is uttered out of Streep's mouth. It just makes us giggle every time.

'Michael' Quotes From The Book Of The Beatles
Before people associated John Travolta with lawsuits over awful rumors, they recognized him as an actor. In enters 'Michael,' one of his more popular (and spiritual) films that he made back in the nineties. The story centers on two reporters who find the archangel on Earth, leading them through a whirlwind adventure. Since his character is an angel, he naturally would utter meaningful lines to any human within earshot. This quote marks one of those points in a lighthearted way.

Preaching The Truth About Starbucks
If you've watched 'You've Got Mail' the number of times this reporter has, every once in awhile this quote pops up while waiting in line to order at a local Starbucks. What Tom Hank's character Joe Fox speaks is the truth to a degree. Plus that and it makes us feel absolutely fancy while ordering. As the internet would say, ordering some elaborate but still simple cup of coffee makes us feel “Like a Sir.”

Harry's Confession To Sally
Why do we have it so low on the list? Let us explain it to you. While it may be memorable, it's not exactly the most quotable piece in the whole movie. At the same time we can't deny the fact that it makes every women sigh, wishing she could find the perfect guy to say something similar to what Harry (Billy Crystal) said to Sally (Meg Ryan) at the end of the movie, especially that last line. No wait, scratch that. We want somebody to say that last line to us, exactly like that.

Telling The Difference Between A .45 And A .22
'My Blue Heaven' is easily one of the most hilarious scripts that Nora Ephron wrote in her career. Or more so it's one of many great/funny scripts that she's written in the span of her career. The movie stars Steve Martin as basically a Henry Hill-like character thrown into the witness protection program with hilarious results. Even though some will argue that 'Goodfellas' is equally as funny, that movie doesn't have somebody with Steven Martin's hairdo.

Baby Fish Mouth. Enough Said.
While most of the nation is swept up in Draw Something fever, there are those of us who remember it's simple origins in the board game Pictionary. During a scene in 'When Harry Met Sally,' Meg Ryan's character is desperately trying to hint what phrase she's trying to tell them. For some reason one of the guesses is “baby fish mouth.” We still don't understand to this day how somebody could come to that conclusion, or even figure out what the heck she was trying to draw, but it's still great.

Dreaming Another Dream
Meryl Streep has played a number of courageous women on screen for decades on end. Easily one of the the bravest women she played was Rachel Samstat in 'Heartburn.' Considered to be one of Nora Ephron's strongest movies to date, the film loosely chronicles the relationship between Ephron and her former husband Carl Bernstein.

Friendships Between Men & Women
There are a number of people who think that what Billy Crystal's character says in 'When Harry Met Sally' is true. That sex gets in the way when it comes to any friendship between a man and a woman and that no true friendship can result from a fact like this. At some point surely almost every girl out there has put this supposed theory to the test. Wonder what the conclusion were on those experiments.
