Pearl Jam‘s penchant for pulling out cover songs in their set has been well documented, and one band that keeps coming up in the rotation of covers is Van Halen.

Guitarist Mike McCready recently told the UT San Diego newspaper, “Eddie‘s a master. He’s the Mozart of the guitar. I went with Eddie [Vedder] and [Alice In Chains] Jerry Cantrell, and I watched Eddie in awe. I like the new Van Halen album and I wasn’t expecting to. It sounds like the old Van Halen.”

As reported over at the mighty Van Halen News Desk, McCready had a chance to visit with Eddie Van Halen during the making of ‘A Different Kind of Truth’ and tweeted a photo for all of his followers, showing that even though he’s a professional musician in a successful band, he can still be a fan as well.

Pearl Jam’s latest nod to Van Halen came earlier this week when they pulled out a little bit of ‘Eruption’ for the crowd in Berlin. They’ve also performed ‘Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love’ in shows dating back to 2010.
