Robert Rodriguez is someone who likes to keep busy. On top of the upcoming releases of ‘Machete Kills‘ and ‘Sin City: A Dame to Kill For,’ and his involvement with a ‘From Dusk Till Dawn‘ TV adaptation, he’ll also be directing the pilot for a series that will mimic the James Bond films, but give them a Mexican flavor.

According to Deadline, Rodriguez would helm the pilot of this currently untitled series, with the first episode to be written by Roberto Orci (who was behind ‘Fringe‘ and the screenplays for ‘Star Trek Into Darkness‘ and the first two ‘Transformers‘ films). Deadline reports that “it centers on a super-star soccer player and notorious playboy who doubles as a highly skilled spy, carrying out covert missions for a special branch of the CIA.” They also mention that it will be lighter in tone than the more recent Bond films.

Rodriguez has captured a more playful tone to covert ops in his kid-friendly series, ‘Spy Kids,’ but this sounds a little more adult. It actually reminds us of the lightest Bond films, which were mostly done by Roger Moore. The show is going to be one of the big flagship titles for Comcast’s El Ray cable channel’s launch, which means we should see his Latino James Bond either later this year or in early 2014.
