In 1987, no man seemed to successfully be able to step up and match the lowlifes and scum that made up the crime-ridden city of Detroit...until Robocop stepped in to play, that is! The science-fiction action film told the story of an officer who was brutally killed and resurrected by the science of OCP (Omni Consumer Products), thus making him an all out cyborg set with one thing in mind: revenge...and maybe a little justice.

'Robocop' started a franchise, one that still continues today (with a 2014 remake adding to the legacy). Therefore, to celebrate all things robotic, lawful and '80s, let's take a look at the cast of 'Robocop' then and now.

  • Peter Weller, RoboCop

Then: Before playing the title character in 'RoboCop,' Peter Weller was best known for portraying the titular role in 1984's 'The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension.' Prior to his two heroic roles, he mostly played creeps like Terri Garr's abusive boyfriend in the Corey Haim flick 'Firstborn.'

Now: Post-'RoboCop' life has been successful for Weller, who went on to have an illustrious career in shows like '24' and 'Dexter.' (Both times as bad guys. Dude is kind of creepy and intense.) Weller also turned to directing, helming episodes of 'Sons of Anarchy,' 'House,' 'Longmire' and Hawaii Five-O.' He voiced Batman in the animated adaptation of 'The Dark Knight Returns' graphic novel and appeared in 'Star Trek Into Darkness.'

  • Nancy Allen, Officer Anne Lewis

Then: Playing the new partner to Weller's pre-RoboCop character, Nancy Allen was Officer Anne Lewis. Before her role in 'RoboCop' she had appeared in 'Dressed to Kill,' 'Home Movies' and 'Carrie,' as well as Brian De Palma's ridiculous thriller masterpiece 'Blow Out' alongside John Travolta. (Allen was married to De Palma from 1979-1983.)

Now: After the film, Allen reprised her role in two sequels, and appeared in 'Out of Sight' and was thanked by the producers in 'Dogma.' She is currently the executive director of the weSpark Cancer Support Center. Her last film was 2008's 'My Apocalypse,' starring Corin 'Parker Lewis Can't Lewis' Nemec.

  • Ronny Cox, Dick Jones

Then: As the senior president of OCP who might or might not have had ties with crime boss Clarence Boddicker (spoiler: he does), actor Ronny Cox played Dick Jones. With another successful film released in 1987 ('Beverly Hills Cop II'), the year turned out to be a pretty good one for Cox. If you have somehow never seen either of those movies, you might recognize him from 'Deliverance.'

Now: Cox's future in acting proved to be a good one, with turns in 'Total Recall,' 'The Starter Wife,' 'Leverage,' and 'Dexter.' Outside of acting, Cox is an accomplished singer-songwriter, performing at theaters and folk music festivals with his band.

Then: Crime boss Clarence Boddicker, played by Kurtwood Smith, was the reason for RoboCop's creation. His character is a legendary bad guy in cinema history.

Now: From what we hear, Smith is one of the nicest men on the planet, the total opposite of his 'RoboCop' role and 'That '70s Show' dad character, Red Forman. He's also a very busy actor, having made appearances in 'Star Trek,' The X-Files' and  '24.' He also voiced James Gordon in the cartoon 'Beware the Batman' and 'Regular Show' fans may have also recognize his voice as Gene the Vending Machine.

  • Miguel Ferrer, Bob Morton

Then: Miguel Ferrer is known for playing guys who aren't exactly moral, something that didn't change with his role as Bob Morton in 'RoboCop.' His character was at the helm of the 'RoboCop' cyborg project and would ultimately meet his end thanks to Boddicker.

Now: Ferrer would go on to become one of the signature "that guy" actors, with turns in 'Twin Peaks,' 'Crossing Jordan,' 'Desperate Housewives' and 'NCIS: Los Angeles,' along with appearances in 'Traffic' and the last two sequels of 'Beverly Hills Chihuahua.'

  • Ray Wise, Leon C. Nash

Then: Ray Wise was a member of Clarence Boddicker's gang, seemingly his right-hand man. Prior to 'RoboCop' Wise was a working actor best known for appearing in eight episodes of 'Dallas.'

Now: Wise has had a successful career, creating a lengthy list of credits. Some of the more noteworthy ones include Laura Palmer's dad on 'Twin Peaks' and The Devil on 'Reaper.' He's continued to work steadily, with recurring roles on 'How I Met Your Mother' and 'Mad Men.'

  • Del Zamora, Kaplan

Then: Coming off of roles in 'General Hospital,' 'Benson,' and 'Hill Street Blues,' Del Zamora played Kaplan. While his spot might not have been that prominent in the film, he went on to achieve great success.

Now: Zamora has managed to stay busy over the years. Notable performances include 'JAG,' 'True Blood' and a bad guy in that hilarious College Humor 'Dora the Explorer' short.

  • Robert DoQui, Sergeant Warren Reed

Then: 'RoboCop' marked the beginning of the later stages of DoQui's career. Before his role as Sergeant Warren Reed, he starred in the 1978 miniseries 'Centennial' and was known for being the voice of Pablo Roberts on the 'Harlem Globetrotters' cartoon series in the early '70s. He also made various appearances in 'I Dream of Jeannie,' 'The Jeffersons' and 'Gunsmoke.'

Now: After 'RoboCop,' DoQui had continued success in acting -- playing parts in 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine' and 'Party of Five,' among others -- until his unfortunate passing in 2008 at the age of 73.

Then: Before his role in 'RoboCop,' Paul McCrane was best known for playing Montgomery MacNeil in 1980's 'Fame.' In fact, it still stands as his most recognizable role.

Now: After 'RoboCop,' McCrane became an accomplished television director with 125 episodes of playing Dr. Robert Romano on 'ER' mashed in there. His directing credits include episodes of 'Glee,' 'Without a Trace' and 'Nashville.' He also played Graem Bauer on '24.'

  • Jesse D. Goins, Joe P. Cox

Then: Jesse Goins has made a career of being a character actor. He's most known for the role of Cyler Johnson in the '80s series 'The Greatest American Hero,' but his portrayal of Joe P. Cox in 'RoboCop' definitely didn't hurt.

Now: Goins has made guest appearances on television for over 30 years on shows like 'Boy Meets World,' 'The A-Team,' 'Cold Case,' 'ER' and 'Boston Legal.' He's still going strong, racking up credits on 'Scandal,' 'Desperate Housewives' 'Brothers & Sisters,' as well as popping up in the occasional film, like the 2009 Gerard Butler-fronted flick 'The Ugly Truth.'
