‘Snow White and Huntsman 2′ Will Arrive in 2015

Universal has announced they’re making a sequel to ‘Snow White and the Huntsman,’ which means that either the first film was a sneaky success, or that studios are desperate for sequels. Regardless, the 2012 fantasy film’s sequel is officially on the way, with plans to release it in 2015.

The news came out of CinemaCon, where Universal revealed their plans to have a follow-up in theaters within two years, placing it in a summer that may be one of the biggest and craziest in recent memory (‘Star Wars Episode 7,’ ‘Avengers 2,’ a ‘Hunger Games‘ sequel, ‘Finding Dory,’ etc).

We first heard that a sequel was a possibility before the release of the first film, with Universal interested in making a sequel that focused more on Chris Hemsworth‘s Huntsman than Kristen Stewart‘s Snow White. Things changed in December, when it was announced Stewart would be returning for the sequel, but director Rupert Sanders was not (possibly a result of his tabloid affair with Stewart). Hemsworth’s involvement in the sequel still hasn’t been officially confirmed, but we bet the studio will drive a dump truck full of money to his front door to keep the ‘Thor’ star involved.

Although ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ wasn’t a massive success theatrically, it made $155 million domestically and nearly $400 million worldwide on a reported $170 million budget. This sounds good, but reported budgets do not include how much is spent on advertising (which for a big summer movie can run over $100 Million) nor are they always an accurate reflection of how much was really spent. That said, these number also don’t reflect how well the film did on home video.
