When it comes to a J.J. Abrams production, the one thing you can be sure of is that there will be plenty of secrecy and some misdirection. 'Star Trek 2,' -- as it is currently known -- has kept its villain and much of its plot under wraps. All we know for sure is that it's scheduled to come out May 17, 2013 and it's in 3D. But we may now know the title.

Coming Soon has people keeping their eye on URL registrations, and it appears that the same people who registered the name 'G.I. Joe Retaliation' have registered 'Star Trek Into Darkness' as both www.startrekintodarkness.com and - and this might be the tell - www.startrekintodarknessmovie.com. With Paramount holding the rights to all things 'Trek,' if it were just the first one that could just be for a game or spin-off. This is all grain of salt stuff, but it's worth noting that when 'The Hobbit' was announced as a trilogy, 'The Desolation of Smaug' had its URL snagged.

UPDATE: Trekmovie has confirmed the title of 'Star Trek 2' is 'Star Trek Into Darkness.' No colon.

On first pass, the title is interesting, but not great. It's better than 'Star Trek 2' - it's not boring, and perhaps a way to avoid mimicking the first series of films, which all had secondary titles. Of course the first movie that this title reminded us of was 'Step Up 2: The Streets,' but we're snarky like that.
