‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ Script Complete, Says J.J. Abrams

Finally, after months of development, J.J. Abrams has confirmed that he’s ready to move on to the next stage: this weekend at the Television Critics Association, the director confirmed that the script has been completed for ‘Star Wars: Episode 7,’ and that the production is now in “deep prep” on the upcoming film, which is scheduled for a December, 2015 release. Well that’s a relief.

According to The Wrap, Abrams confirmed at the TCAs that the screenplay for ‘Episode 7′ has been completed, saying “We’re working really hard and we’ve got our script and we’re in deep prep. Full steam ahead, y’know.”

Abrams was previously working from a script written by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Michael Arndt, but felt that the story focused too much on newer characters. He reworked the story with Lawrence Kasdan, who wrote for the original trilogy, and now the story will focus a bit more on the original trio of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo. The younger characters will be introduced in the first film, with their stories and adventures set up to segue into the second and third films.

Abrams also confirmed that ‘Breaking Bad‘ star Jesse Plemons is indeed one of the actors he’s met with, and that he actually read about Plemons coming in on the internet before he even met with the actor:

He is one of the actors that we’ve talked to, yeah. But, you know. It’s not often that I read about actors that I’m going to be meeting … that I get to read articles about actors who are going to come in. And so I get to see someone and say, ‘Oh, I read that I’m going to see you.’

There’s still no official confirmation for casting on ‘Star Wars: Episode 7,’ but now that a script is locked and loaded, we expect to hear more solid news in the coming weeks.
