Former Journey singer Steve Perry has offered his first public statement since the band was elected into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yesterday. It will not take you very long to read it.

In his exclusive quote posted on Steve Perry News, the reclusive star simply says, “I am truly grateful that Journey is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”

And … that’s it. Perry offers no hints as to whether or not he’s willing to reunite for any kind of a performance with his former bandmates at the event — or if he will even attend the ceremony, set for April in New York City.

Founding guitarist Neal Schon told us yesterday that he’s up for the reunion: “Musically speaking, I’d love to have him do a song with us – or two, or whatever. … I’m open to everything. I’m very open-minded to whatever happens, and any ideas that are brought forth.”

Perry last toured with Journey following the release of 1986’s Raised on Radio. He briefly reunited with the group for the 1996 album Trial by Fire, but plans for a supporting tour were scuttled when he reportedly required hip-replacement surgery.

While Journey continued on with other singers, including current frontman Arnel Pineda, Perry has not released any solo music since 1998. In 2014, he made a couple of brief onstage appearances with the indie-rock band Eels.
