On the Wednesday, March 28 edition of American Idol, Fleetwood Mac vocalist Stevie Nicks served as a mentor for America’s ‘Top 9,’ but the music of Led Zeppelin ruled the night thanks to a contestant’s performance of ‘Whole Lotta Love.’

Nicks took a special liking to Idol’s token rocker Colton Dixon — especially when it came to his hair. “Don’t ever cut your hair off,” Nicks said about Dixon’s roadkill mohawk — and you can’t blame her for dishing out the advice, as Dixon is certainly a favorite amongst female ‘Idol’ viewers.

Shortly after, contestants Colton Dixon, Phillip Phillips and Elise Testone paid tribute to Fleetwood Mac by performing a medley of ‘Changes,’ ‘Edge of Seventeen’ and ‘Don’t Stop,’ which especially impressed ‘Idol’ judge Steven Tyler.

Nicks was moved to tears during her mentor spot with Hollie Cavanagh, as the ‘Idol’ contestant rehearsed ‘Jesus, Take the Wheel’ by Carrie Underwood. Though Cavanagh performed an emotional rendition of the Carrie Underwood hit, Steven Tyler managed to once again make everyone in America uncomfortable while addressing judges Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson. ‘I’m gonna get between both of you, which I’ve been trying to do for a long time.”

Speaking of uncomfortable moments, as Stevie Nicks herself began to swoon over Phillip Phillips, ‘Idol’ mentor Jimmy Iovine showed a hint of jealousy. “We’ve got it, he’s gorgeous okay? Why don’t you say he looked like Jimmy?” Nicks responded, “You, were gorgeous, and still are. You had the little Greek body of life, you were darling, and you still are.” Ugh … can we just get back to the karaoke and product placement already?

Nicks also took a special liking to Elise Testone, who got Nicks’ stamp of approval on her rehearsal of Zep’s ‘Whole Lotta Love.’ Nicks and Testone also harmonized on Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Dreams,’ with Nicks stating, “If I needed a singer, I’d hire her in a second.” Testone went on to absolutely nail ‘Whole Lotta Love,’ giving the ‘Idol’ episode a much-needed injection of rock ‘n’ roll spirit.
