If, like me, you were a child of the 80's, the song "Eye of the Tiger" probably still plays in your head whenever you see Sylvester Stallone.  I loved the Rocky movies growing up and, to this day, I have the overwhelming urge to punch things when I hear that classic guitar riff.

Then came Rocky IV when Survivor followed up "Eye of the Tiger" with another hit soundtrack song "The Burning Heart".  I've never hated Russia more than I did when Ivan Drago killed Apollo.

Here at the Hawk, we've got the Eye of the Tiger, a Burning Heart and a bunch of tickets for the Survivor concert at the Alberta Bair Theater on September 13th.  After Labor Day, we'll have your chance to score free tickets every weekday leading up to the show.

And when Survivor comes to town, we're going to see something rare,  a band with two singers.  Most people didn't notice back in the 80's, but after they struck it rich with Eye of the Tiger, Survivor's original singer Dave Bickler needed surgery to remove polyps from his vocal chords.  He was replaced by Jimi Jameson for the band's next album.  Eventually, Bickler and Jameson took turns replacing each other and filing lawsuits against their former band mates.

Bickler went on to record the famous "Real Men of Genius" commercials for Budweiser along with several other successful advertising jingles.  Meanwhile, both Bickler and Jameson made peace with the band, and each other.  And now, they're both on the road...together...taking turns belting out Survivor's biggest hits.

I wish Eddie Van Halen would take a page from Survivor's survival.  Can you imagine a Van Halen tour with David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar taking turns singing their classic songs? It would be the ultimate reunion tour.

Evidently, the two singer plan is working for Survivor.  According to this review from a recent concert  in Ohio, the band has never sounded better.  We're hoping they'll sound just as good in a few weeks when they come to Billings.  For more info on the show, including a link to buy tickets online, check out the Alberta Bair Theater's website.
