David Lee Roth joined honoree Mike Love for a spirited rendition of 'California Girls' as the Beach Boys singer was honored as recipient of the 21st Ella Award in Beverly Hills. The award is given out annually by the Society of Singers.
To fully appreciate the Beach Boys' 'Little Deuce Coupe,' which was released 50 years ago, you have to accept that it's possible to create a pop record with occasional moments of stunning beauty about the awesomeness of cars.
The Beach Boys' 2012 reunion album was released during the group's 50th-anniversary celebration. But more than just marking a milestone, 'That's Why God Made the Radio' strapped itself into a time capsule and did its best to rocket itself back to 1962 or at least to 1967 (or maybe 1972).

"'Pet Sounds' is by far my very best album, though my favorite is 'Friends'," writes Brian Wilson in the liner notes of the CD reissue of the latter album. "I think that the Beach Boys sound was developing right along. I had developed a sixth sense for everybody's voices."
Last year, as the Beach Boys kicked off their 50th anniversary celebration, a multi-disc box set was supposed to be part of that. It was put on hold, until now.
