The Mountain legend and heavy metal pioneer is a diabetic and underwent emergency surgery after severe swelling, according to Spinner.com.

His wife Jenni explained in a press statement that: “The doctors tried for two days to save it to no avail. The decision to amputate was one that was necessary to save his life as the infection was spreading throughout his body.”
