Here's the thing about January: it's usually a wasteland. With the studios concentrating on their Oscar campaigns and the profitable summer months still half a year away, this month is where all of the crap usually gets dumped. However, this is also one of the few months where crap has a chance of performing well, hence the success of last year's 'The Devil Inside' and now 'Texas Chainsaw 3D,' which took the weekend with a strong $23 million opening.

By now you're well aware of the controversy surrounding Peter Jackson's decision to shoot 'The Hobbit' in 48fps, a higher frame rate that has given the movie, at least in the early going, a sped-up and slightly disorienting appearance. (Read our review right here.) It has almost exclusively dominated the conversation regarding the highly-anticipated prequel, and today we have Warner Bros. weighing in to assure us that, contrary to some reports, 'The Hobbit' in 48fps will not make you nauseous. Always nice to know!

We're finding out a lot about 'The Hobbit' movie this week, thanks to the latest issue of The Hollywood Reporter. For instance, did you know Ian McKellen almost turned down the role of Gandalf for the next three Middle Earth-based movies? While all that's interesting to learn, our favorite 'Hobbit' fact actually pertains to a seemingly unrelated actor -- funnyman Stephen Colbert.

THR missed this little tid bit: the 'Colbert Report' host is obsessed with Tolkien. So much so, in fact, that he got to visit the set of 'An Unexpected Journey' in New Zealand, where -- get this -- he may or may not have shot a cameo appearance for the movie trilogy!
