"On opening day, time stands still, the years fall away and the joy of baseball reminds you of life's eternal sweetness." - Mark Barnicle

If you're a baseball fan, especially a long suffering Chicago Cubs fan, it doesn't get much better than opening day.

As we usher in a new season, I can enjoy these precious moments when my team is actually tied for first.  Of course, that won't lost long.  My Cubbies are set for another sub .500 campaign.  Oh, but just wait until next year.

With that in mind, here's my pre-season predictions:

NL East Champ: Atlanta Braves
NL Central Champ: Pittsburgh Pirates
NL West Champ:  L.A. Dodgers
NL Wild Cards: St. Louis Cardinals and Arizona Diamondbacks

AL East Champ:  Baltimore Orioles
AL Central Champ:  Detroit Tigers
AL West Champ:  Texas Rangers
AL Wild Cards: Oakland A's and Cleveland Indians.

World Series: Dodgers vs. Orioles

World Series Champs: Dodgers.

Its worth noting that I dislike the Dodgers and absolutely despise the Cardinals, so I hope I'm wrong. As for my beloved Cubbies, I am confident enough to predict we will only lose 90 games instead of 100 this year. But you know our motto:  Win or Lose, We Drink Booze.  Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to shut up and finish my beer.
