This morning, a friend of mine posted an interesting question his Facebook page.  "Is it just me, or did the Devil totally out-fiddle Johnny when he went down to Georgia?"

It's not just him.  In fact, every time I hear the classic Charlie Daniels' song "The Devil Went Down to Georgia", it bothers me that Johnny won the contest.  If you listen closely to the dueling fiddle solos, it's clear that the Devil should have been declared the victor.  Furthermore, who were the judges?  The song fails to mention the criteria used to determine the winner.  Are we to believe that the Devil just gave up after Johnny's fiddle solo?  That's not the Devil I know.

While it's unlikely that 77 year old Charlie Daniels will ever record a sequel, it's high time that someone rights this wrong.  I would like to see a group or artist compose a song titled "The Devil Went Back to Georgia", during which an independent panel of judges overturns Johnny's victory, strips him of his golden fiddle and takes his soul.  If and when that ever happens, justice will finally be served and I will be able to move on with my life.
