‘The Incredibles 2′ Script in Development, Along With — Sigh — ‘Cars 3′
One of Disney and Pixar's most beloved hits of all time was undoubtedly Brad Bird's 'The Incredibles,' which saw a family of superheroes thrusted back into heroics after years of remaining in hiding. The director previously said that he was extremely interested in the possibility of continuing the story with 'The Incredibles 2,' but now, during a meeting with the Disney investors, Disney CEO Bob Iger said that Bird is currently at work on a script!
He also had some less-than-stellar news in revealing that 'Cars 3' was moving forward, which, let's be real, isn't all that surprising. 'Cars' is one of the studio's most fruitful franchises, even spawning 'Planes' and the upcoming 'Planes: Fire & Rescue,' and it didn't seem likely that they'd end it so soon.
But as for 'The Incredibles,' this news of the sequel comes shortly after Disney announced they're returning the title, along with 'Ratatouille,' to theaters for a 3D re-release, though now specific release time has been announced yet.
Brad Bird has been outspoken about wanting to return to this animated world for some time, but was hesitant if only for fear that the sequel wouldn't live up to the first. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter last year, he said of a potential 'Incredibles 2':
I have been thinking about it. People think that I have not been, but I have. Because I love those characters and love that world. I am stroking my chin and scratching my head. I have many, many elements that I think would work really well in another [Incredibles] film, and if I can get ‘em to click all together, I would probably wanna do that.
What do you think? Does this slight but still impactful news give you more hope of seeing 'The Incredibles 2'? Sound off in the comments.
