Despite its premise of following real-world events approximately one year after they take place, we still know relatively little about the second season of Aaron Sorkin’s controversial HBO drama ‘The Newsroom.’ Previously, we’d learned that ‘Mad Men‘ and ‘United States of Tara’ star Rosemarie DeWitt was to take an important recurring role in the season as a litigator, but now it seems the actress has been forced to exit the production after shooting several episodes. Will HBO recast and re-shoot, or write around the departure?

‘The Newsroom’ season 2 won’t hit the airwaves until at least summer 2013, but that hasn’t stopped the HBO drama from accruing a small snag in its production. Previously cast star Rosemarie DeWitt has been forced to exit production of the second season, EW reports, having already shot a number of episodes. HBO cites “scheduling conflicts” as the reason, but other sources say script rewrites altered production in a way DeWitt’s schedule couldn’t accommodate.

Prior to her exit, Dewitt was to play the role of Rebecca Halliday, a litigator hired to defend Atlantis Cable News in a multimillion-dollar wrongful-termination suit. The actress will be recast, with DeWitt’s scenes re-shot as production continues.

Elsewhere, the second season of HBO’s ‘The Newsroom’ features appearances by current ‘Justified‘ star Patton Oswalt as the fictional networks new Vice President of Human Resources, as well as Meryl Streep’s daughter Grace Gummer as a reporter embedded with the Mitt Romney campaign. Little else is known of the pay-cable drama’s second season, other than Sorkin’s intent to utilize a vast array of paid consultants for its source material, as opposed to the handful used during the first season.

Well, what say you? Are you looking forward to ‘The Newsroom’ season 2, even without Rosemarie DeWitt?
