Day Two Updates on The Toby Griego Trial
Toby Griego of Billings is on trial and charged with 27 counts, 26 of which are felonies. He has been charged with sexual assault, assault with a weapon, kidnapping and numerous other serious crimes against women.Day two of the trial ended Tuesday afternoon, April 8.
I have and will continue to follow the Griego trial from several media sources in Billings including the stream on KULR-8, coverage from KTVQ-T.V. and the Billings Gazette and from my own personal visits to the courtroom.
The testimony on April 8 from two of the victims was heart wrenching, emotional and my mind keeps asking why. The two women on the stand on Tuesday described how a man broke into their homes last year and brutally attacked them. The play by play description of what they went though described terror and fear.
Victim #1: The woman was attacked and raped in her home on January, 27, 2013 after an evening out with friends. The victim went to bed and described to the jury,
I woke up to a hand over my mouth and a knife to my throat and somebody telling me to be quiet and not to scream,” she said. “For a second, I thought it was (a friend) pulling a prank on me and I tried swatting that person away and I got a blow to my head and I realized it wasn’t a prank.
Victim #2: The second victim took the stand and reported that she was attacked almost 3 months after victim one’s attack, on April, 25, 2013. She testified that,
She woke up to a man kneeling next to her bed, going through her belongings. I asked him who he was. He instantly grabbed me and dragged me across the bed. The woman said after he grabbed her, he put his hand over her mouth. I had a stranger take advantage of me.
Day 3 of the trial is Wednesday, April 9th.
