Tom Cruise Going Sci-Fi Again with ‘Yukikaze’
According to Deadline, Tom Cruise is sticking with science fiction for his next film, 'Yukikaze,' based on a series of novels by Japanese author Chohel Kamayashi, who has been likened to the Japanese version of Isaac Asimov.
'Yukikaze' takes place in the early 21st century, after a porthole has opened over Antarctica and allowed an invading alien race to attack. Once the people of Earth have triumphed, they send a specialized force to the aliens' home planet to eliminate any remaining threats.
'Oblivion' has already opened big overseas, earning $60 million before it even hits US theaters this weekend. It's expected to fare pretty well, considering Tom Cruise's star power (and the added talent of Morgan Freeman) -- and who doesn't love a movie where Tom Cruise is fighting and running away from aliens? It's his thing. (And Will Smith's thing, too.)
Cruise is currently also attached to reprise the roles of Ethan Hunt in another 'Mission: Impossible' and Jack Reacher in a sequel to the film of the same name. He's also currently in talks to star in Guy Ritchie's big screen adaptation of 'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.'
