Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton is thanking fans for their support as he recovers from a lung infection that’s forced him off the road.

“I’m under the best of care,” Hamilton has tweeted, “and I will provide more information within the next couple of days. Thanks again for all of the love and support.”

Hamilton, who fought off cancer in 2006, has been replaced by David Hull of the Joe Perry Project. He played the same role in both ’06 and in 2009. Hull and Aerosmith will perform next on Saturday (May 4) in Melbourne, Australia. Dates follow in Manila, Philippines on May 8 and then Jakarta, Indonesia on May 11. After that, the band will break until a series of shows this August in Japan.

Hamilton co-wrote two of Aerosmith’s biggest hits, “Janie’s Got a Gun” and “Sweet Emotion,” and sang back up on their fan favorite “Love in an Elevator.”
