U2 have been taking their time putting together the follow-up to their most recent studio LP, but thanks to the upcoming film ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom,’ fans starved for new music have been blessed with a long-awaited appetizer.
The movie, which stars Idris Elba as Nelson Mandela in a fact-based biopic treatment of the legendary South African activist and political leader’s life, boasts a soundtrack which includes the new U2 song ‘Ordinary Love.’ Written and recorded for the movie, ‘Love’ serves as a fittingly inspirational musical backdrop for a remarkable true story, as well as the prelude to the band’s first full-length record of new material since 2009’s ‘No Line on the Horizon.’
As for when exactly we can expect to hear the other new tunes, that’s still up in the air right now, but according to recent comments made by bassist Adam Clayton, the wait could be almost over. “We’re trying to get these 12 songs absolutely right and get them finished by the end of November, and then we can kind of enjoy Christmas,” explained Clayton, saying that the upcoming LP represents “A bit of a return to U2 of old, but with the maturity, if you like, of the U2 of the last 10 years. It’s a combination of those two things and it’s a really interesting hybrid.”
